Palmistry Glossary

This glossary provides simple definitions of the most common terms used in palmistry. Use it as a quick reference while reading or interpreting a hand.

Apollo (Mount of Apollo)

The area below the ring finger. Associated with creativity and expression. See Mounts of the Palm.

Cross

A marking formed by two intersecting lines. Its meaning depends on location and context. See Signs and Markings.

Fate Line

A vertical line that may run toward the middle finger. Associated with direction and structure in life. See The Fate Line.

Grille

A grid-like pattern of intersecting lines. Often suggests scattered or diffused energy.

Hand Shape

The overall structure of the hand, often categorized as Earth, Air, Fire, or Water. See Hand Shapes.

Head Line

A major line representing thinking patterns and decision-making style. See The Head Line.

Heart Line

A major line representing emotional patterns and how a person relates to others. See The Heart Line.

Island

A small oval or loop within a line. Often interpreted as a period of reduced clarity.

Jupiter (Mount of Jupiter)

The area below the index finger. Associated with ambition and direction.

Life Line

A major line that curves around the base of the thumb. Associated with vitality and engagement with life. See The Life Line.

Mercury (Mount of Mercury)

The area below the little finger. Associated with communication and adaptability.

Minor Lines

Smaller lines on the palm that add detail to a reading. See Minor Lines.

Saturn (Mount of Saturn)

The area below the middle finger. Associated with structure and responsibility.

Star

A marking formed by multiple lines meeting at a point. May suggest intensity or focus.

Sun Line (Apollo Line)

A minor line associated with expression and fulfillment.

Thumb

Venus (Mount of Venus)

The area at the base of the thumb. Associated with energy and emotional intensity.

Water Hand

A hand type with a long palm and long fingers. Associated with sensitivity and intuition.
